Reduce stress and negativity with essential oils
What does your self-talk sound like? There's no doubt that we all have a group of messages that play over and over in our minds. But much too often, our self-talk is negative messaging which only reinforces feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem.
The good news is that our minds are capable of over-writing negative thoughts and turning them into messages of hope, encouragement, strength, and confidence. Positive self-talk can allow you to find optimism in any situation.
Meditation and Aromatherapy
The smell of fresh-cut grass wafts by. Suddenly, you recall a childhood memory of playing hide 'n seek out in the yard. Studies show that aromas activate the part of our brain that interacts with mood, emotion, and perceived health.[1] Therefore, combining aromatherapy during positive self-talk meditation sessions can have a profound effect on your overall well-being.
When beginning your meditation along with scent therapy it is helpful to follow these guidelines:
- Focus on being grateful
- Create repeat messaging that is self-affirming and uplifting
- Match your self-messaging to the scent of the oil
As with any new habit or change, it is important to be patient and consistent. Start with a few oils that are most pleasing to you and focus on the positive thoughts, or feelings that come to mind as you slowly inhale the scent.
Ready to try? Find a quiet space, place a few drops of your oil between your palms and cup your hands over your nose. Inhale slowly as you recite and repeat your positive thoughts. You may also want to diffuse these same oils in areas where you spend time. In time, these scents will automatically trigger your new feelings of self-love and happiness. Here are a few combinations to get you started:
Peppermint Oil - "I'm focused, I'm bold and full of energy to accomplish anything I set my mind to."
Lavender Oil - "I feel all my anxiety leaving my mind and body which is giving me a sense of tranquility."
Orange or Bergamot Oil - "I feel refreshed and ready for new experiences in my life now that I have balance and happiness."
